Partial Hospitalization Program and Outpatient Rehab

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) Denver, Colorado

At Continuum Recovery Center of Colorado, we recognize that not everyone has the time, resources, or desire to stay at a rehab facility twenty-four hours a day, 7 days a week. For this segment of the population, it often makes sense to consider a partial hospitalization program (PHP) in Denver, Colorado. This program offers many of the same benefits as inpatient rehab but on an outpatient basis. This allows you to get the care you need while returning home to your own bed in the evening.

The question is often asked: will a PHP be effective for those with severe addictions? The answer is often, yes! In fact, many people find that PHPs provide them with a similarly immersive and holistic experience as the therapeutic approach is the same as it is in residential treatment programs.

What To Expect During a Partial Hospitalization Program

Our partial hospitalization program in Denver requires individuals to attend treatment multiple times per week for several hours at a time. Through treatment, clients will engage in evidence-based therapies while continuing to forge their path towards recovery.

Clients will have the opportunity to participate in individual psychotherapy with their therapist as well as engage in group counseling. During both of these sessions, clients can work on issues closely personal and specific to them, while also addressing issues that are commonly shared among most while in group counseling. Individual therapists can also provide certain types of therapies based on our client’s needs (such as cognitive behavioral therapy or motivational interviewing).

Who Are Partial Hospitalization Programs For?

Our partial hospitalization program is designed for many types of people who are struggling with a substance use disorder. Prior to enrolling an individual into one of these programs, we consider the following factors:

  • The amount of alcohol or drugs typically consumed
  • How long the problem has lasted
  • The current living situation
  • Underlying health issues

These factors help us determine the severity of one’s substance use disorder, allowing us to properly place them in a PHP. These types of programs are ideal for those individuals who:

  • Do not have a medical need for detox
  • Do not require the level of care provided through inpatient treatment programs
  • Have the ability to dedicate a large portion of their time to recovery
  • Are able to maintain a healthy life outside of treatment

How Long Do Partial Hospitalization Programs Last?

PHPs typically last for four to six weeks. Clients are asked to attend sessions three to five days a week. These sessions typically last up to six hours. This allows them to spend plenty of time in therapy, working towards recovery. Oftentimes, PHPs are part of a step-down system. Some people leaving inpatient treatment, who still need an intensive level of care, enroll in a PHP. Once a person feels comfortable, leaving a PHP, they move down to an intensive outpatient program (IOP). This type of program consists of less time in treatment yet is still extensive. Eventually, a person might move to a standard outpatient program (OP). An OP will help them transition fully back into the world with the tools and resources needed to maintain a fulfilling life. Additionally, people might start a PHP after completing a detox program.

Our PHP strives to help individuals reclaim their lives from substance abuse. We pride ourselves on our ability to aid clients in achieving their recovery goals. Whether it is their first or fifth time in the program, we are here to help.

Where Do People Live During Partial Hospitalization Programs?

The beauty of a PHP is that you have the option to sleep in your own bed at night, surrounded by the comforts of your home. However, some people do not have a home environment that will be constructive to their recovery, and that’s okay.  Sober living homes allow those who do not feel comfortable staying at home the opportunity to live away from any potential triggers or stressors. It provides people with a sense of accountability. While living in a sober home, people often make great friends and learn how to enjoy activities sober.

Benefits of a Partial Hospitalization Program

While in our PHP, you will be involved in your own therapy plan—including group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapyYou’ll spend several days a week going to the facility and engaging in therapy sessions, medication management, and skill-building sessions. During that time, you can expect to:

  • Develop healthy boundaries
  • Establish relapse prevention skills
  • Address underlying trauma related to your substance use disorder
  • Receive structured, stable care from a team of dedicated professionals
  • Maintain your life outside of treatment while still being able to get the professional help you need
  • Bond with others in the program in ways that allow for you to establish a support group

Transformation happens when you learn new life skills and can apply them in new relationships. Clients value the built-in freedom and flexibility of our partial hospitalization program in Denver as it makes returning to society that much easier.
