Just like you are unique compared to everyone else around you–the number of hairs on your head, the lifetime experiences you have had, and the future you are destined to have, the recovery journey is also unique to each and every addict.
Are you tired of people expecting you to recover a certain way or within a specific timeframe? That’s not possible. You cannot recover for someone else–only for yourself. You are unique and so is your recovery process.
Think about it. Each person has a set of unique genes, environmental factors, and experiences that made them who they are today. Each person has unique likes, dislikes, fears, hopes, friends, and family.
You are in recovery and your friend is in recovery–but you won’t recover the same way…and that’s okay!
You may need more group therapy than your friend; or you might want to incorporate animals and intense exercise into your treatment plan while they include more meditation and restorative yoga; or you may want to wait at least a year before you talk to certain friends or family members, yet they jump right back into their relationships and feel fine about it.
It might take you a year or so before you start to feel confident about your recovery process, while your friend is taking much longer…and that’s okay!
Recovery is a JOURNEY...not a destination. And your recovery journey is unique to you.
You’ll get there alright; but it’s not how you jump from point A to point B. It is about the roads you chose to take and the mountains you chose to climb. Once you get to a good spot, you will look back with pride at how far you have come on your journey.
That is what we at Continuum Recovery Center of Colorado want to help you with: Guiding you through your recovery journey every step of the way.
