Addiction is a disease and not a moral failing. Those who struggle with substance abuse fight demons day in and day out. They’re not choosing to live this way but rather fighting a powerful disease. To make things worse, addiction is often misunderstood by others.
One of the most common misconceptions about addicts is that they are unemployed individuals living on the street. However, this is just not true. According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, Nearly 70 Percent of Illicit Drug Users are Employed part- or full-time. The same survey found that most binge drinkers and heavy alcohol users are employed as well.
Because the majority of addicts do have responsibilities, it’s often difficult for them to commit to treatment. They worry about losing their jobs, leaving behind loved ones and not being able to do the things they love. However, a lengthy inpatient program is not the only option. More addicts are turning to outpatient addiction treatment in Denver because it can fit into a busy lifestyle.
Let’s learn more about how outpatient rehab can support your recovery while allowing you to maintain much of your normal routine.
Keep Your Job and Even Work Part-Time
Employment is a main concern for addicts, and rightfully so. Without a stable income, you can’t pay your bills or cover treatment costs. Fortunately, your job is protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Under the ADA, drug addiction is a disability and you cannot be terminated or discriminated against because of it.
However, it’s important to know that you are only protected if you seek help for your addiction. If you come to work under the influence or your work performance suffers because of the addiction, you can lose your job.
Also talk to your employer about additional services that could help, such as an Employee Assistance Program (EPA) or the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). More employers are making it easier for employees to seek help for substance abuse and mental health disorders without losing their place in the company.
If you don’t want to take a leave of absence, outpatient rehab in Denver allows you to work part-time. It doesn’t take up your whole day so you can continue working while seeking care. Most outpatient programs require a few hours of your time most days of the week.
Live at Home with Your Family
Another perk to outpatient treatment is that you can continue living at home with your family. Whether you have children, a spouse or help out with your parents, outpatient addiction treatment in Denver allows you to return home at the end of the day. This means you get to continue being an active part of your family’s life while making recovery a priority.
With the holidays quickly approaching, being able to stay close to family is a huge blessing. You can start working your recovery while taking part in the holiday preparations. At Continuum Recovery Center of Colorado, we find that our clients are often happier and more confident when they stay close to their support circle.
Continue Doing the Things You Love
Having Hobbies and Activities is Important in Recovery. You’ll need to find healthy, constructive ways to spend your time and prevent boredom when you’re not in therapy. Outpatient Denver treatment centers will introduce you to some new things like mindfulness meditation, yoga and art therapy. You may also want to get back to some of the activities you used to enjoy like reading, hiking or volunteering with animals.
Hobbies aren’t just a way to fill your schedule. They also teach you about yourself, allow you to meet others with similar interests and put your skills to good use. With the flexibility of outpatient treatment, you’ll have the time to rediscover your passions. We like to see our clients busy and doing the things they love!
Choose from Various Programs
Recovery is an ongoing process with many phases. Many addicts start off with detox and inpatient treatment and then move down to a lower level of care like an intensive outpatient or standard outpatient program.
Continuum Recovery Center of Colorado offers many treatment programs under one roof. Even though we don’t offer traditional detox services, we do have medication-assisted treatment (MAT). This makes it possible to start and complete treatment under one roof.
Here is a breakdown of our programs:
- Comprehensive Day Treatment. Our comprehensive day treatment program offers many of the same benefits of inpatient rehab but without expecting clients to stay 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This program is even suitable for individuals with severe addictions. This is typically 5-days a week, 6 hours a day.
- Intensive Outpatient Treatment. Our IOP is a step down from our comprehensive day program and includes 3-5 days of therapy each week, normally 3 hours a day. It can be used after detox, as a primary treatment program or as part of an aftercare plan.
- Outpatient Treatment. A standard OP generally requires 1 days of group therapy plus one-on-one therapy. It’s the lowest level of care but offers solid support as you transition into your normal routine.
